As a play therapist, my treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help children and their families resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. With sensitivity and compassion, I help children find solutions to a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues.
I provide children with the opportunity to work through their worries in an empathic, nurturing environment. I work with each child to develop his or her personal capabilities, problem solving abilities, and interpersonal skills.
Parents are an integral part of the child's therapeutic process and are taught practical techniques that they can easily incorporate into their intreactions and activities with their children.
I also specialize in educational assessment of elementary through high school-age children, including comprehensive consultations with parents and relevant school personnel. Past professional assessment assignments have included contracts with Lamar Consolidated Independent School District of the Richmond/Rosenberg area and Education Specialists of Houston, Texas.
I have specialized training and expertise in the administration and interpretation of assessment instruments for children from four years of age through adolescence. For possible attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and/or dyslexia, I conduct specialized assessment of the child which includes structured input from parents, caretakers, and school personnel. After carefully evaluating the data, I prepare a comprehensive written report and present the information to the parents. At that time, we discuss specific ways in which the results of the evaluation will best benefit the child's academic needs.
